Øresund Bridge Virtual Challenge

This unique bridge and his architecture and history are the inspiration of our virtual run. This bridge is the only connection between continental Europe and Scandinavia. The  Øresund bridge is the longest combined bridge tunnel in Europe. The road-rail design connects Denmark Copenhagen and Sweden Malmö across the Øresund Strait.  

The most interesting fact that the underwater parts of the bridge have become covered in marine organisms and act as an artificial reef. The length of the bridge is 7845 m. The structure has a mass of 82,000 tonnes and supports two railway tracks. A girder and cable-stayed design provides the specific rigidity necessary to carry heavy rail traffic.  The bridge can also  resist large accumulations of ice. All the ships can pass unimpeded through the that route. The Øresund Bridge gave its name to the Nordic television series called The Bridge. The movie series was set in the region around this bridge.

In 2013 Malmö hosted the Eurovision Song Contest. The Øresund Bridge was used as a symbol for the connection between Sweden and the rest of Europe. In 2014 the bridge was the inspiration behind the 2014 song “Walk Me to the Bridge” .
