This Virtual Challenge takes you from the Mariana Trench, located in the western Pacific Ocean to the highest point on the planet – Mont Everest. The Mariana Trench is named after the nearby Mariana Islands, which are named Las Marianas in honour of Spanish Queen Mariana of Austria. Mount Everest is located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. The China–Nepal border runs across its summit point. This place attracts many climbers, including highly experienced mountaineers. Everest presents dangers such as altitude sickness, weather, and wind, as well as significant hazards from avalanches and the Khumbu Icefall. Run, walk or cycle to complete this exceptional challenge.
